10 big things Fabio got wrong
WE run down the biggest blunders of England boss Fabio Capello's disastrous World Cup.
THE Italian refused to reveal his starting line-ups, even to England players, until just two hours before kick-off. After the John Terry row news came out a little earlier.
BEFORE even leaving these shores for South Africa he picked half-fit players for the squad such as centre-backs Ledley King and Rio Ferdinand plus midfielder Gareth Barry.
INEXPLICABLY Capello played Aston Villa's James Milner against the USA when he was ill. Milner lasted half an hour - while Joe Cole, fit and raring to go, was ignored.
HE truly believed that Gareth Barry - who had an average first season at Manchester City scoring just three goals in 43 games - was the saviour of English football.
REFUSAL to start with Joe Cole in any of England's four games, despite the former Chelsea star shining in warm-up matches and huge public clamour for his inclusion.
PICKING Rob Green in goal over experienced Portsmouth veteran David James, 39, and in-form youngster Joe Hart, 23, for England's opener with catastrophic results.
SNUBBING the second highest English scorer in the Premier League - 24-goal Darren Bent - for three-goal Emile Heskey and sticking with him despite his lack of goal threat.
HE moved John Terry from his usual position on the left of central defence to accommodate Matthew Upson. Neither looked comfortable with the arrangement.
WHILE other teams had pace in abundance he left Arsenal's flying winger Theo Walcott and Manchester City starlet Adam Johnson - who is also very quick - at home.
STUBBORNLY stuck to 4-4-2 formation when it was not yielding results - with the country crying out for skipper Steven Gerrard to play off lone frontman Wayne Rooney.
